A new year is upon us, and many poets (myself included) are resolved to write more this year. To help out, and as my way of wishing you all a happy new year, I'm sharing 3 prompts from '30 Poetry Prompts: Set 1' my first set of downloadable poetry writing prompts. See below.
Until the end of January, all of my short courses will be on sale for 10% off, including '30 Poetry Prompts: Set 1'. I'm currently working on a second set, '30 Poetry Prompts: Set 2', which will be released soon.
This prompt is about exploring a cycle from beginning to end. Any cycle will do, large or small, personal or impersonal, natural or artificial. Remember that somehow, you must return to the start, your poem will have covered a process of transformation, but although the first and last lines are the same, the beginning and end will feel different.
Your poem can be as silly or serious as you like. You might write a prayer to this god or simply describe it. This is a chance to view a common object in a new way, but it’s also a chance to engage with the concept of the divine as it appears in the everyday.
This could be any event, an event of personal significance in your life, or someone else’s, a historical event, or an everyday occurrence. This exercise will make you think about where the 'beginning' and 'end' really were, and how exactly the event unfolded.
